Hi
I am running windows 98 and have just installed broadband. I have AVG
protection and no other. What is the recomended protection that I should
have to protect me whilst on the net.
Thank you for the help.

You posted your question in the wrong newsgroup. This groups is fpr XP and
not Win98.

Besides AVG for anti virus, you should use:

1) firewall software. Zone Alarm does not seem to be too bad.

2) Anti-spyware tools. AVG may only do viruses.
Ad Aware SE
Spybot: Search and Destroy 1.4
CWShredder (to be able to remove the Cool Web Search malware)
Spyware Terminator (Active shielding and clean-up of
sypwares/malwares.)

First, note that you're asking in the wrong place. This is a Windows XP
newsgroup, and you should ask Windows 98 questions in a Windows 98
newsgroup.

Second, you should be aware that if you running such an old unsupported
operating system, you will never have really adequate protection.

Don't take a machine that old out on the internet: No security updates are
being made for that anymore. You're gonna want to put that behind a router
that doesn't allow outsiders to connect back into your network between it
and your internet connection. You're good on the virus part with AVG,
can't go wrong there.

If having a walled network is not an option, you might want to consider one
of the free OS's out there like Debian (http://www.debian.org/) if you
can't upgrade Windows and need to put that machine directly on the
internet.

But don't put abandoned operating systems on the internet: You're just
asking for it at that point.

I am administrator of several web-sites and I've noticed
that my business is in great danger because of constant
DATA LOSSES. 8(

I was very upset because my anti-virus (smth more than $300)
was not able to protect me.

Specialists says that it was so called 'tailor-made' keylogger
attack. (???)

As far as I'm concerned, all of modern antispyware tools
or anti-viruses use SIGNATURE BASES (a kind of database
containing some description of KNOWN spyware and viruses).
BUT CYBERCRIMINALS DO NOT USE KNOWN AND WIDESPEAD
TOOLS. (!!!)

THEY CREATE THIER OWN NEW AND EXTREMELY
DANGEROUS KEYLOGGERS (not included to signature bases).

SO THE MOST OF ANTISPYWARE/ANTIVIRUS TOOLS
ARE USELESS!!! ;(

My friend recommened me to look for some heurisitic-based
tools. "It will protect you from both known and unknown spyware"
he said. (!!!) He recommended to try ANTI-KEYLOGGER.

I have downloaded a trial
(www.download.softsecurity.com/2/15/antikey.zip). I have tested it on
three of my servers - it have found and blocked 2 keyloggers.
NOTE, THREE OTHER ANTISPYWARE TOOLS
AND MY LICENSED ANTI-VIRUS were not able to find them.

SO, ANTI-KEYLOGGER does not depend on signature bases,
it recognizes the behavior of keylogger and blocks it instantly.
This thing is really very effective!
I STRICTLY RECOMMEND YOU TO TRY IT.

I also recommend you to visit
www.anti-keylogger.com
www.anti-keyloggers.com

let me also remind:
