Annoying Popup

Conrad Allen

After having loaded XP & SP2, I now get an annoying "popup"
whenever I start up. Sure, all I have to do is close it, but without
SP2 it wasn't there. I'd like to eliminate it if possible.

It's one of those conversation bubbles with it's dialogue source
pointing to the security center symbol on the lower righthand part
of the screen, next to the quick start bar.

I've looked into the security center and there's no apparent way
to turn off this "popup" unless, of course, I sign up for automatic
updates. I just don't want something/someone loading stuff on my
PC without my immediate knowledge of what's going on. Hey, I
may not even want the updates. Especially when places like Microsoft
will install their applications as the default ones when someone like
me wants to use some other app as the default.

Thanks for your help.

Cannot just "look" in the Security Center.. You should read and comprehend
as well. *grin*

Left hand side in the the Security Center window..
(Control Panel --> Security Center)

"Change the way Security Center Alerts Me"
(Click on that)

Uncheck all applicable boxes.

Thanks for ALL the answers, even those filled w/sarcasm. I did "look" but
that heading of "Change ...." apparently never registered in my meager
little brain.

Searching this newsgroup (microsoft.public.windowsxp.general) for your
posts - I see a few..

This one is the latest.

Another is "Posting Replies" on 12/12/2005 - Where I did not answer, but
Mike Hall provided you with an answer of mine from another one of your
posts - strangely enough. hah

Another is "Is this Possible" on 12/8/2005 - which is the answer of mine
that Mike Hall copied for you in the post above.

Another is "Changing Directory Names" on 11/23/2005 - where you got two
decent answers that I see.

And another on 11/18/2005 titled, "Directory Link".... Where you got a
couple of questions about your question - with some suggestions.

Are there others in other groups?
