Anitvirus

I have a question about antivirus. When I bought this computer, it had come
with Norton Antivirus. All was well until recently when my antivirus
updates had expired. I am entitled to a free version of McAfee antivirus
with my account with Verizon with MSN 8. I would like to delete Norton and
install McAfee but i thought I had read somewhere that there was a utility
which you should download to "completely" remove Norton before I install
another antivirus software onto this computer. Can someone help me out with
where I can find this utility as I don't want to pay Norton the $40.00 to
update my virus definitions when i have one for free. Any help would be
appreciated. Thanx Patty

The proper way to remove it is

Unplug your Network Cable or stay off the Internet (Dial-Up)
1. Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel - Norton Anti-Virus
2. Reboot
3. Revisit Add/Remove programs - Uninstall Live Update
4. Remove LiveReg
5. Based on Anti-Virus version, go to Symantec and download a
stand-alone tool RNav (get the one for your version) & run
6. Search (All Files & Hidden) for keyword "Symantec"
Likely you'll find two folders - Delete both
7. Reboot
8. Install your new version Anti-Virus

Sorry, I should have put the item for downloading RNav at the
beginning of the steps, do that before uninstalling NAV & or
disconnecting your Internet connection.

It is very long you can not have the >> symbols on the
left. You will have to copy and paste it 4 times 1st-4th
lines. At the end of line 1 you will have to paste line 2
no spaces between any of them then 3 and 4.

ftp://ftp.symantec.com/misc/consumer/Rnav2003.exe

uninstaller for nav 2003 or earlier. Only use if add/remove fails.
