Hi,

I've tried OpenOffice Impress as an alternative to powerpoint (i'm
using OO as a replacement for Office). But Impress is so slowwwww ...
For example, the transitions are builded up slowly etc. Is there a good
alternative around to make presentations that can compete with
powerpoint?

A pro would be that it can read ppt, and the open format of OO.

You can look at this:

Can't vouch for it, as I haven't tried it. Years ago, I do remember a
very large download that was a Powerpoint alternative, but the name
escapes me at the moment. There are several Flash-based alternatives
like Powerbullet, but that's probably not what you're looking for.

On some foreign sites, you may still be able to get an old copy of Canon
Mediator. It was a freeware promotion from Canon about five years ago. Good
program, very sophisticated. . . There's no way to register it now with
Canon now to get it to work, but if you Google this ng, you'll see that
Susan Burgher has posted instructions several times on how to register it
manually.

Unfortunatley, Mediator isn't compatible with Powerpoint or OO.

I think that might be the program I was thinking of in an earlier
post. Not sure, but the Canon part seems familiar.

The free online Thinkfree Beta will open PowerPoint files:

Actually Zoho Office imports PowerPoint and OO, I hope your not a shill
for them though it would be kind of cute if you were :-). It looks
like a simple elegant solution from first glance:

Only the demo login seems to work in the Firefox I'm using (version 1.5
something).
