alt down arrow shortcut not working

I have excel 2010 at work (new job just started), someone installed a bunch of macros (not sure if this is relevant to the cause), but for some reason I cannot ever use the "alt + down arrow" shortcut to open up a drop down list or filter list, just nothing happens.

I didn't get a chance to try to the shortcut before they installed the macros so I can't say that it was working beforehand so it may entirely unrelated.

Does anyone have any ideas?
