All my desktop folders and tasbar disappeared!

First time posting.

I was using my home office computer this morning and I noticed that
there were way too many windows open and my computer was starting to
slow down a lot. I closed all my windows including Corel Draw and it
started to slow down even worse. My computer basically paused for half
a minute. When the program finally shut down, my folders on my desktop
all disappeared, no my computer, no my documents, not shortcuts. My
taskbar (right word?) disppeared also, (the blue bar on the bottom). I
can't access the the start menu, there's just a darker blue ...square
where it should be. Did my computer get a virus? Is there anything I
can do? I haven't backed up my computer in a couple of months and I
need to do finish some important work on there.

Boot to Safe Mode (F8 on restart) and log on as the default "Administrator" account. Create a new use with the User Accounts app in
control panel. Copy the old profile to the new one.
