After the split..

I am running an access database on a LAN with 3 users.

I have split the database to a FE and BE.

Each user has a local copy of the FE pointing to the remote BE.

What I am wondering is - when i make a change to the FE, is there an easy
way to "roll out" the changes i have maid? other than going round to each PC
and deleting the FE and putting the new one in?

TIA

Tony Toews has a free Auto-Updater tool that you should check out. I wrote my
own using another Access file that gives me more flexibility, but I'm beginning
to think these things will be unnecessary in the future and in many cases are
now.

If you have a good LAN and a reasonably sized file, you can just create a batch
file that copies the new front end file from the server EVERY time the app is
launched and experience no more than a second or two of delay. My latest
roll-out to our Terminal Server farm has Gigabit Ethernet to the server I
publish my revision to and I recently switched to this method. So far it's been
working great.

Even on our 100 Mb LAN (where I still use a version checker) the time to copy my
largish (23 MB) file is just a few seconds.

Hi John,

Go to Tony Toews' site and look up his FE Updater. It's a freebie Tony
provides to do just what you want. (Get his URL from his signature line in
one of his posts.)

I am having trouble using this FE Updater. Can I put it on my computer to
test it out?
