After SP2

My Dell laptop was fine even after installing SP2, but about every 6 months
I usually reformat and re-install. Now every thing was great untill I
re-installed SP2. After installing this service pack and trying to re-boot,
I get a black screen that after a while has a black and white progress bar
along the bottom ( like a pedestrian crossing if you live in the UK), also
the drive has the same sound as when you format, then after approx' 45
minutes Windows eventually fires up. So I tried yet another reformat and
Install, again all was fine untill the SP" install. Any ideas out there?

Try Error Checking the drive

rightclick drive icon, Properties, tools tab

Tried this and got a message on re-start saying something like "Cannot
access volume" and then Error checcking just finnished, any ideas? BTW I
am the same author but now back on my own computer, Esther is my wife.

I would guess the drive is damaged, and needs replacing.
