Aero Theme Problem on Vista Ultimate...

T

Tao Jones

Hi,

I've been using Vista Ultimate for a few months now and I have never had a
problem running in aero glass theme. Today, after a reboot, all the sudden my
aero glass them e was suddenly gone and I was running in old windows 2000
style. So I went to personalization>theme to try and reactivate vista theme,
but to my dismay it was not listed. I then used the browse feature to try and
manualy load it, but everytime i do it says "The theme could not be loaded
because the theme service is not running".

O have tried to scour the net to look for a solution, but have yet to find
anything. Any help would be MUCH appreciated!

TIA

Make sure the following services are running:
Themes
Desktop Windows Manager

You can find them in Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services.

Thnx for your help. I went and did as you suggested, and then activated both. That allowed me to be able to choose Vista from the drop down list under themes. But everytime I go to apply "aero" under color and scheme, firstly it comes up as a solid black screen under the preview, and then never actually applies :((

If you can think of anything else that might help, it would be greatly
appreciated...

Happy NY...

Download the latest driver for your graphics card from the motherboard's or
video card's website.
Save it to your desktop, uninstall the current video driver, then install
the new one.

Tao and Andre: Have had the same problem, and used the 'cures' suggested,
but the error returns and is very sporatic. At the same time, my graphics
card, Nvidia 6600gt on reboot, oven drops the widescreen resolution down from
1680x1500. The screen resets the usual way. Could these items be connected
in any way? A belated 'welcome back' andre.

Hi JackM,

Thanks for the welcome back. I can only attribute this issue to the video
driver, its either not properly written or something else installed on the
system is triggering it. Could you list some of applications you have
installed including devices?

Thnx everyone for your help. I'm running an Nvidia GeForce 8600 GTS. I just
now downloaded the updated drivers from the Nvidia site, but it dosen't seem
to have made any difference at all :(

I can change the "theme" to "windows vista", but when I go to change the
"color scheme" to aero, something seems corrupt. The preview is all black for
some reason and it just dosen't load a thing...

I'm totally lost here as I'm not too good with computers.

Any further help would be MUCH appreciated...

Maybe you could try refreshing your Windows Experience Index:
If none of the above work, you might need to refresh your Windows Experience
Index (WEI) rating.
1. Click Start
2. In the search box, type Performance Information and Tools, hit enter
3. Click the Update my score link
4. Click Continue on the User Account Control dialog
