My Aero Glass theme has disappeared

Hi all,

I wonder if someone could help me with a very vexing problem.

I have a new(ish) Sony VAIO laptop with Windows Vista Business installed
on it.

A couple of months ago I disabled the Aero Glass theme and all the
eye-candy and selected the Windows Classic theme.

This evening I decided to put the Aero Glass theme back, only to
discover that it has inexplicably disappeared my system and I can only
select Windows Classic or Windows Vista Basic.

If I go to Personalize->Window Color and Appearance I get the old style
Appearance Settings dialog box pops up and there is no trace of Glass
anywhere.

I have made sure the Theme service is running and I've turned on all the
visual effects in Control Panel->System->Advanced System
Settings->Performance.

I've also tried several registry hacks and installing updated graphics
card drivers to get it back but to no avail.

Can anyone tell me how to get my Aero Glass theme back?

Regards,

Chris

If you are running the Power saver plan, Vista sometimes turns off
transparency automatically. If you don't want this to happen, you can
switch to the Balanced power plan. Go to Control Panel > Power Options.

Try enabling Aero Glass.

Just enabled the Desktop Window Manager Session Manager (UxSms) service
and it came back.

That took some doing.

Thanks for the help.

Hi,

Please note the minimum requirements for Vista to enable AERO below:

a.. DirectX 9 video card
b.. Pixel shader 2.0 support
c.. AGP 4x or better or PCI Express video cards are recommended, although
some others may work
d.. At least 64 MB of video memory, more may be needed for higher
resolutions or multiple monitors
e.. A special WDDM video driver
List of supported Graphics Cards here:
http://www.iexbeta.com/wiki/index.php/Windows_Vista_Hardware_Compatibility_List#Graphic_Cards

Hope that helps,

Kris
