Hi there

Im looking for some advice, I have recently started up photography I have a canon slr 350d, my computer is 3 years old and too slow to cope. Im looking for a new computer but unsure of the specs that I really need to look out for. I have been on a website called PCspecialist which seem quite good and the do the paying up option!. Do i really need to hard disc? Where is a good reasonable place to go and buy a new PC? Any advice would be appreciated thanx

This could probably do with being moved to the Hardware>General forum for a better response......:thumb:

What is going to be the main use for your PC - is it image editing/storage? - will you also be doing other tasks, such as gaming/word processing/internet etc....?

Can you also explain what you mean by 'Do I really need to hard disc'....

Thanks :)

Hi, sorry I meant two hard disks I went to another site and they recomended two hard discs but when I look in PC worlds site I didn't find anythingwith two. I will be using it more for storage with photos and music, im not really good with the editing side of things so it wont be too complecated, I have photoshop CS2 tho it runs so slow on my PC at the moment I dont really use it. What is better AMD or Intel? Im getting so confused but would prefer to spend my money on something worthwhile and that will be of use to me for a while .
Thanx

you should be ok with one 200GB hard drive, get an AMD processor they are cheaper and more efficient something like an Athlon64 3200, with photoshop you need alot of RAM so look for systems with 1GB

I agree with most of this, however personally I would go for 2 HD's, one smaller one around 80GB for OS/programs etc, and a nice big storage one for all your photos and music (200GB +).

You are going to struggle to get one with 2 HD's off-the-shelf at PC World etc, but how about going to a local PC builder, or online where you can specify extras?

I can recommend a place I have bought from in the past which only use quality componants HERE - however I'm sure others here can recommend other places too;)

Then theres always DELL, where I think you can add extras, and they often do free credit offers....

As Quad has said, do you also need peripherals, such as monitor/keyboard/speakers etc, or are you after a base unit only?

Never heard of them, but the componants look good, you can configure a PC pretty much any way you want, and the prices seem OK :thumb:

Make sure that 19 inch TFT is good one as photo editing is considered critical appliction and your monitor should be upto task. If you need help with selecting one we are here ;)
