Adprep and promoting our first 2003 DC

S

Simon

Hello all, we are unable to DCPROMO a 2003 member server in a 2000 domain.

Having heard a couple of horror stories we carefully read all the
documentation before attempting the upgrade from AD 2000 to 2003.

We have done the exchange prep and upgraded to exchange 2003. We then ran
the adprep tool for the forest and then the domain. Both completed
successfully and I checked that replication had completed after the forest
prep before running it for the domain.

The error we get when trying to DCPROMO the 2003 member server says the
forest is not prepared???

Any suggestions would be welcomed,

Many thanks, Simon.

you need to run ADPREP /FORESTPREP (on the schema master) and ADPREP
/DOMAINPREP /GPPREP (on the infrastructure master) if you want to introduce
W2K3 DCs using the SP1 media (in a W2K AD)

you need to run ADPREP /FORESTPREP (on the schema master) if you want to
introduce W2K3 R2 DCs using the SECOND CD of the R2 distribution set (in a
W2K3 AD)
