I seem to have lost my administrator account on my pc, can only get on using
the guest account which is of no use to me.

Can anyone help me please?

If your computer is set up with fast-user switching, then you can bring up a
classic logon screen by pressing ctrl +alt +delete twice. Type
'Administrator' in the name box and enter the password.

When I do that the Windows security comes up, no place to type in name. Comes
up with Lock computer, log off, shutdown, task manager, change password or
cancel.

Are you running XP? This description sounds like there's a different
operating system installed. Try Log Off to get a standard welcome screen
and then try George's advice.

Yes am running Xp. Tried logging off but the same log in screen comes up
with my name. In user accounts there is only one guest account with my name
and no administrator at all.

Not a lot of details about what you do to get logged back into your account but It sounds like you have the blank screensaver password protected and set to start at 1 minute of inactivity. If this is true, then as soon as you move the mouse or press a key, you would see the welcome screen and you would have to enter your password to return to Windows.

I am just retired so now have no IT Department to call out! I think mine
might be the same (XPHome) problem - if I leave the PC for more than a couple
of minutes without activity, I am returned to the log on screen (although it
shows me as having n programmes running. Can I at least alter time delay
before this happens - it's getting annoying!
Thanks

Two places to check:

Right click the desktop and select properties to bring up the window with
display properties. On the screensaver page, remove the check box that
requires a logon when resuming.

Second place: Control Panel (classic view)> Power Options: Remove check
from setting that requires a logon when resuming from standby.

In both places (display properties and power options), you'll also see
where you can adjust the amount of time that will pass before the
screensaver or standby kick in.
