Administrator Rights

Dell Laptop, 1.3GHz, 256 RAM, WinXP Home
Only one user account was setup with admin rights.
User started using DSL at home and dialup outside home.
Contracted Sasser and removed it (had no AV protection at
the time). They installed Norton Internet Security.

****Problem****
Internet connections activate, but Internet Explorer does
not load, only error shows "cannot find server or DNS
error". All network settings have been double checked.

No viruses were found.

I tried to uninstall Norton Internet Security, but it
stated the user account did not have rights to do so. I
tried to log into the Admin account but received a
warning message that the account did not have permission
to log in. (That's messed up!) In Safe Mode I can log
into the admin account, but Norton will not uninstall in
Safe Mode.

Any suggestions?

This sounds like the network Layered Services stack has been corrupted.
Some anti-virus and anti-spyware tools remove malware but don't fix the
LSP stack. Find and get LSPfix.exe to repair the stack or remove
components that don't belong there. There are a number of common
malwares that wedge themselves into the LSP stack.
