Administrator password

Is there any way to retrieve the password to the Administrator account? I
originally had only one account which was the administrator account login and
it never went to the login screen. Last night I added new accounts and when I
rebooted, my administrator account was gone. I was told to do ctrl+alt+delete
twice to get to the basic login screen, but once I did that the password I
thought I had set it to didn't work. Help.....

Hi,

There is no reason the password would have changed. Have you checked the
position of the numlock and caplocks keys? Passwords are case-sensitive.

If you made those new accounts as administrators you can reset your
adminstrative password. Start, Run, type control userpasswords2.

If you didn't then you can get in with a Linux boot disk and some freeware.
Check out this link: http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/

Melodie, you can also try with a blank password to see if that does it.

Hi Melodie

There is no way to retrive the passwords of any account that you have the
only way is to rest the password in order to do this you would have to
loggin with the new user that you created and the go to the user account in
the control panel and then choose that admin account and choose reset
password and type in the new password ...

Click start/run, then type (no quotes) "control userpasswords2" and hit
enter. In the applet, under the "Users" tab, click on the administrator
account in the window (as to highlight it), then click on the Reset Password
button, and give it a new password, remember it..

Note, you can only do this, if you are yourself, and administrator.

Well, the built-in Admin account is not listed in the method you give. Only
the accounts created during the OS setup, or other than the built-in admin
account, are shown. Even then, how would she be able to change an admin
account password, if she isn't an admin herself (she doesn't say what level
she is)?

Just be aware that it is NOT a good idea to use the built-in administrator
account on a daily basis. Leave it for emergencies, because if that account
gets corrupted, the only way into your machine is by a repair install of XP.
