Admin password

I can not log onto the admin account of my desktop computer with the
password I originally setup anymore. I have not used this account since
setting up XP, I've been using my account I set up with admin rights. The
other night my computer had a "seizure" and when it rebooted it only came up
the admin account and it would not take the password. After rebooting a
couple times it finally came up with the normal logon screen with me and
guest account and I was able to log in. I'm curios now as to why I can't
log into the admin account and want to know how to reset the password for
it. Can anyone help?!
Thanks in advance

Is your account (the one you are using now) an admin account?
If so - change the true administrator's password.

Is the account you can't get into is the built-in Administrator
account? If that's the case, try the following,

Log on with your account that has admin rights.
Open a Command Prompt window, Start -> Run -> cmd.exe -> Click
OK.
Enter the following at the command prompt.

net user administrator *

Hit Enter.
Leave the line blank when asked to type a password.
Hit Enter.
Leave the line blank when asked to retype the password.
Hit Enter.
This should reset the password for the Administrator to a blank
password.
Now, see if you can logon to the Administrator account.
If you can, go to Control Panel -> User Accounts and add a
password to this account.

Note: You can also change the password using the net user
command by placing the new password at the end of the command.
For example,

net user Administrator New!Password!4ThisAccount

means that the built-in Administrator account now has the
following password,
New!Password!4ThisAccount.

Good luck

Yes, it is. But it is having some issues also. I fixed the built-in admin
account with info from nepatsfan. Thanks

That done it! Thanks! Could you possibly help with the admin account I setup
for my normal use? It is supposed to be a full rights admin account, but it
is saying it's not in a couple of situations. Mainly the LAN setting
(connection page). Any ideas?
Thanks

You're welcome. Glad to hear you were able to access the
Administrator account.

As for your other question, the best advice I can give you is
to post that question in the microsoft.public.windowsxp.general
newsgroup. That way your question will be seen by a larger
audience. The more people who see your question, the better
chance you have of getting useful advice.

That said, the type of behavior you describe is often caused by
a corrupted user account. To test for this, do the following.

Log on with the built-in Administrator account.
Create a new user account that is a Computer Administrator.
Log on with the new account.
See if you experience the same issues you're seeing in your
other account.
If everything seems OK with the new account, you can copy files
and folders from your old account into the new account.

Note: You'll have to import your email messages and contacts
from the old profile into the new profile. The procedure will
differ depending on your email program.

Good luck

Thanks again! I'll check into it. I've gleaned so much useful info from here
and a couple of other newsgroups. Lots and lots of people with tons of know
how.
Keep up the good advice!
