Operating System (Home, Pro, etc..) and your logon username?

Boot to safe mode.
Logon as the user "administrator". The password MAY BE blank - so just
press ENTER for the password.
That is the true system administrator user account - 'hidden' in regular
mode in Windows XP Home Edition..

Try creating a new user (administrator) once in and then reboot into regular
mode and logon as that new user.

On the Logon Screen - press CTRL+ALT+DEL - 2 times. This will bring up the
User Name and Password dialog box. Type "Administrator" in User Name and left
the password box blank. See if you can enter in this account. If you can,
then goto control panel and create a new account with administrative
privledge.

If that doesn't work and you are stuck in your current user. Then press
CTRL+ALT+DEL key once. This will bring up the Windows Task Manager. Click the
Process Tab and select EXPLORER.EXE from the list and click End Task. Click
Yes to end the process. On the File Menu - click New Task (Run...). In the
Open dialog box type Explorer.exe and press enter. See if you do something
now. If yes, then first of all goto control panel and create a new user.

Hope this information is useful to you. Let us know!
