Address bar search

After installing Adware and removing spyware that was taking over the address bar search, now no search will occur from the address bar. I get something like http://?*20/[search input]. I have tried all settings on the custom search menu and tools options page, and nothing will get it back. It is like some setting got trashed. Did not see any other questions on this. Searched recommended sites and forums and found no help. Poked arround the registry and could not spot anything. Tried repair on IE to no avail. HELP!

I can give you the registry route to your IE Search page setting in the registry but it's not going to do you any good unless you know the search address you want. I use MSN so for me it goes something like this.
http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?prd=ie&ar=iesearc
You can find it and your start page and all your basic IE settings here. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\InternetExplorer\Main Click on Main to highlight it and you will see the search page on the right. Then go farther down to search\search properties and SearchURL and make sure that there aren't any values set for default or provider and if there is then delete them. Good luck
