address bar not working

N

Nabs

My laptop says that it's connected to the internet, and when I click on a
site from my favourites, it connects and the site comes up. But when I type
any site into my address bar, it tells me that it couldn't connect. Does
anyone know what might be wrong?

Always state your IE version and full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3;
Vista 64-bit SP2; Win7; Win7 64-bit) when posting in an IE-specific forum or
newsgroup. Please do so in your next reply.

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?
What third-party firewall (if any)?

Has a(another) Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this
machine (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought
it)?

If you aren't typing a protocol prefix with your "any site" your symptom may mean
that you're using search from the Address bar and your default search engine
for that is the problem. What happens if you prefix your "any site" with a question
mark space (? ). Maximize your window and look closely at what happens in the
Status bar when you do that. Also look for changes in the Address bar, Tab label
and Title bar.
