Address Bar for user is disable

Hi,

The Address Bar for my IE6 is disable (I'm using WinXp), meaning I am unable
to input any url into the address bar. However, the same does not apply to
the other users on my computers. I am not sure how it was disable, however is
there somewhere I can enable back the address bar so that I can type into the
address bar? Currently I can only browse the sites that are kept in
"Favourites"

Thanks!

View\Toolbars\Address Bar menu -
or
Right click on IE's toolbar to display a drop-down menu. The Address Bar
should be in a list of toolbars available. Click it to display the
Addressbar.

Can you see the part of the Address Bar where you would type?
Cn you click there and get a cursor?

If you can't even see the white part where you would type:
Right click the toolbar and make sure that Lock Toolbars is not checked and
that Address Bar is checked.
Grab the handle at the left end of each toolbar and drag them down. One of
them is probably hiding the Address bar.

Hi,

The toolbar is present. However I'm unable to input anything onto the
address bar. It prohibit me from typing anything onto it. I've checked, the
toolbar is not locked either.

Hi,
This might be an Autocomplete problem- a corrupt History folder or index.dat
file.

Login as another user with administrator privileges, or from the machine's
default administrator account (from safe mode) and delete the affected
History folder from Windows Explorer.

You would not be able to delete this History folder when logged in as
yourself- it's "In use." You should be able to delete it from the
Administrator account.

If this doesn't help, I would search for a BHO or malware. Start with BHO
Demon from http://www.definitivesolutions.com/bhodemon.htm

Then download and run Ad-aware and Spybot. Check for updates before running
either program.

You haven't made clear if the Address bar is big enough
to see anything in, let alone type anything in it.

However, the same does not apply to
the other users on my computers.

That means that it is only your user profile which is affected.

I am not sure how it was disable, however is
there somewhere I can enable back the address bar so that I can type into the

See the other posters excellent suggestions.

Currently I can only browse the sites that are kept in
"Favourites"

Does this mean that you can't use the Open dialog either?
Press Ctrl-o. It is always empty but can you type in there?

Also, in case the problem is related to your History as Don said
please temporarily disable AutoComplete for Web Addresses
(in Options, Content, AutoComplete Settings)
