adding memory

I had 385 Mb of ram and went to remove the 128 card to install a 256 card to
bring the memory to 512 which is its max. Every time I boot windows xp will
just keep rebooting and giving me the "last known configuration" screen I've
tested the memory, used different modules in different slots, and everything
runs fine when either I have 384 Mb or less. and all of my 256 cards run fine
by themselves or with the 128 card. And I know about using the bigger and
newer card in the first bank. The only time I have a problem is when I put
2-256 modules together.

Use the older and slower RAM in the first slot since that's the one the
timings are taken from, Check BIOS for "enable SPD (serial presence
detect)" or similar. Wording may be different depending on BIOS type but
basically it sets timings according to RAM type found in first slot.

Both 256 memory card MUST be the same specifications and speeds. If one is
different, this could be the cause of you problams.
