I have seen this behaviour with 256MB single - sided modules being
reported as only128MB in some motherboards, but never saw it with
128MB modules.
Could simply be one module is crook or incompatible, are they both the
same speed ?, pull the module from the second slot and see if the
machine will POST,
then repeat the exercise with the other module.

Some computers dating back had a maximum 128mb Ram depending on the MOBO. How old is your computer?

Three things:

When you ran the crucial scanner and purchased more memory, did you order
the memory from crucial using the suggestions made by the scanner itself? Or
did you order something else from someone else that "sounded about right" -
this can often be the cause of problems.

When you say that the PC says you still only have 128MB of RAM, what exactly
tells you this? The BIOS or Windows? Do the BIOS and Windows both report the
same amount of RAM?

Does your motherboard have any particular instructions for adding more RAM?
And if so have you followed them to the letter?

I'm always surprised at "professionals" who STILL have to be asked "Have you
checked (event viewer / syslog)".

Hi Roger

The BIOS is part of the computer that runs before the operating system and
ensures that all the various parts of the computer can talk to each other
and the operating system.

I can't say how to get into this on a Fujitsu machine - I don't usually work
with them - look for a message that says something similar to "press F2 to
enter setup" when you turn on the computer and do what it says. (seems like
JS may be able to help with this part from their reply!)

If you can get into the bios, be very careful not to change any options
without expert assistance, but look around and see if you can see if it
mentions how much memory it can see. If the BIOS can't see the correct
amount of memory then there is no hope that Windows will be able to do so.
