Adding a link to a page causes program to stop working?

G

Guest

I'm using Vista Premium and Frontpage 2003. Both are updated to capacity!

Everytime I add a link to my current web page in Frontpage (using the right
click, "insert hyperlink" option or using the "hyperlink" button in the
toolbar), it immediately pops up that the program has stopped working and
needs to close.

I've run the detect and repair option but nothing changes.
Any ideas? Maybe this is a Frontpage 2003 and Vista compatibility issue?

Unfortunately a known bug (in Vista) that has no fix yet

Does MS have a replacement program for us home users? I noticed it wasn't
part of Office 2007, which I do own. Unfortunately, I don't know what a
couple of these programs actually do and I do not like Publisher.

The replacements for FrontPage are Expression Web and Ms Office
SharePoint Designer
A trial for Expression Web is available from
http://www.microsoft.com/products/expression/en/expression-web/free-trial.mspx

Do not forget the product key obtainable from a link on that page (near
the bottom of the page).

Well, hey, you can't expect MS to find deep and obscure bugs like this
in FP - I mean, how often do you actually put a link into a web page ?
I'm not surprised they missed it and it's taking this long to get a
fix!

T

Thomas A. Rowe

It is not a really a FP2003 issue, since FP2003 work correctly under Windows XP, it is only when
FP2003 is installed under Vista.

There's been some chatter about this and the problem only seems to happen if
you install FP2003 AFTER you install Vista. If you do an upgrade from
Windows XP (with FP2003 installed) it seems to work fine. I have FP2003 on
a Vista upgrade and I don't get any problems

Point noted. You'd think MS would test existing apps extensively with
a new OS though and fix whichever causes the issue.

Then again, they do test extensively, they just release with thousands
of documented bugs unresolved.

Why, if new versions of existing apps are being released, etc.?

Known bug. with no fix yet
- until the fix is out you are limited to adding links in code view

Slow response, I've been busy :)!

There's no newer version of FP2003 that I am aware of that they are
releasing.

If you are suggesting that it's OK for them to ignore FP2003 because
they have a newer web developments product, I'd say that's just plain
bad customer support. It would be one thing if it was an obscure
little feature the few ever run into - but when the #1 task in the
application doesn't work, and when there are hundreds of thousands, if
not millions, of users actively using the application, that's just
lame.

MS is well aware of and currently working on the issue.
