add/remove windows component error

setup was unable to open information file msmsgs.inf

the specific error code is 0x2 at line 2011777033

Are you trying to remove Windows Messenger from the Add/Remove in
Control Panel?

I am having the very same problem. The Windows XP setup starts when I click
on add/remove win components and I get the same message followed by
application could not be initialized and contact administrator. I have
searched and searched for help and have tried many regedits, but it still is
not working. Thanks for posting and hope someone has an answer!

Since there has been no response could someone suggest another newsgroup or
somewhere else to ask for help?
