Add / Remove Programs will not open

I have noticed that recently when I try to open the add / remove programs in
control panel, it will not open. It just opens the window and says "please
wait while the current list is being populated ......." It doesn't matter how
long I leave it, it remains blank.

Any ideas?

To repair all system files, go to Start/Run, and type (or paste in): SFC /SCANNOW
