Add/remove programs and rundll32.exe

Hi

When I try to uninstall programs via add/remove programs my system hangs
indefinately.
If I open add/remove programs the list populates ok, I can choose remove,
then it hangs. In task manager a rundll32.exe process is taking 100% cpu
usage. I also get the same scenario if I try to use the program uninstaller
tool in CCleaner.
I've carried out a full scan with Spybot, AVG Anti-spyware, and NOD32 AV
(all fully updated to the latest definitions) and also run sfc /scannow.
There are no events or error messages, system just doesn't respond until the
offending rundll32.exe process is halted.

Hope this makes sense, Thx in advance

Hi Mark

It's not really an issue of a stray program entry being left behind. it's
actually the full program I want to remove, and it doesn't matter which
program I pick, same scenario every time.

You should be able to restore any remove option with a reinstall of the app,
but if you think the registry is not actually damaged, you might try sfc.

Start/Run, type:

SFC /SCANNOW

It takes about 10 minutes.

Hi guys,

I am stuck with the same problem. When I try to uninstall any sw, rundll32
hogs up all cpu indefinitely (untill I kill the process)..

I tried to run SFC /SCANNOW, but it keeps requesting for a Windows XP cd.
I only got a Recovery WinXP SP2 home (finnish) CD that came along with this
Fujitsu-Siemens pc =(

Please, could anyone help me, this is driving me nuts..
Allhay, did you get the problem fixed somehow ?If you did, please let me
know how.

The thing that worked eventually for me was to use Windows safe mode.
Just rebooted the pc and started windows in safe mode. Then I was able to
uninstall any sw I liked.
Don't know why I didn't come to think of trying safe mode in the first place
but still... Hope this works for others struggiling with the same problem.
