Add notes to e-mails in Outlook

I'm almost certain that this isn't available in Outlook 2003, but I'd like to
easily add a note to any e-mails I have received in Outlook. It would be
great as an expansion of the Followup feature for individual e-mails. For
example, instead of being reminded to followup with a particular e-mail then
having to re-read an e-mail to figure out what I needed to follow up on, I
could jot in a quick note when I set the Followup flag.

I guess this is more of a feature request than a request for help.

I have had a similar request in mind. I sometimes use the 'Category'
assignment to augment my ability to remember why I flagged a message for
followup. As you may know you can edit the 'Category' labels to suit your
needs.

I created a UDF (User Defined Field) in my inbox called "Extra" and added it
to my view. After enabling "Edit Directly in cell" option, I can type my
notes in the Extra field. The only problem is that it doesn't appear when you
open the email; only on the inbox list display.
