Whenever I click on add or remove hardware in the control panel, the panel
goes a lighter colour as if its in the background of something, but the add
or remove hardware window does not open at all. I've tried changing the view
around from the classic to the XP view, to see if that made a difference, but
it doesn't. I have been downloading some free trial games from
download-free-games.com maybe thats interfered with the computer? I'm trying
to remove them but add and remove hardware wont work! Help!

Thanks...

Hello,

Can you open the add or remove window through Start > Run > appwiz.cpl ?
Also try taking a look at http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
(line 208 to the right) and see if that fixes the problem. If not you can
also use third party applications such as CCleaner (after you open it >
Tools > Uninstall) to run the installer so that you can uninstall the
programs. They both pretty much do the same thing of running the program's
uninstaller.

I suggest you install Linux, you'll get back the control of your computer...
In Linux, a game will never break a system level application like an hw manager, things that need to be protected ARE protected, unlike in Windows.

You can try it without having to install using knoppix LiveCD, available on knoppix.org, then installl it if you're convinced (ubuntu or mandriva are better versions for installing)
