I seem to be having a problem with adaware. I run the program and it is
still finding a file it cannot delete. i am asked if i would like to run
adaware on next boot up. i say yes.....
i am running start-up monitor, and that asks if adaware may run, i say
yes.........
i then examine start-up monitor, and the program that is set to just run
once, is called AAW ? not adaware. there is no path to this file.
i can not get adaware to run at system start up, and can not get rid of the
damn file which is becoming the vain of my life. i am on the verge of doing
a complete re install as nothing i have tried so far will remove this
browser hijack.

please help

Phil

Run AdAware in Safe Mode.

p.s the file in question is a vx2 malware. it changes its name regularly, it
is called g2400chmef4a0.dll at the moment, there is also a file called
guard.tmp

have also do this.
when adaware trys to delete it it opens "my computer" and then says that i
should close all windows explorers and try again. and so the process
continues?

Phil:

You want to scan in Safe Mode and make sure you shutdown as many applications as possible !

Here are my set of instructions...

1) Download the following item...

Adaware SE
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

2) Disable System Restore
http://vil.nai.com/vil/SystemHelpDocs/DisableSysRestore.htm
3) Reboot your PC into Safe Mode and shutdown as many applications as possible.
4) Using Adaware SE, perform a Full Scan of your platform and clean/delete
any parasites found.
5) Restart your PC and perform a "final" Full Scan of your platform using Adaware
6) Re-enable System Restore and re-apply any System Restore preferences,
(e.g. HD space to use suggested 400 ~ 600MB),
7) Reboot your PC.
8) Create a new Restore point
9) Please report back your results

Dave

Have you already tried AdAware's VX2cleaner add-on?
Download from: AdAware > Help > What are add-ons? > Download, install & run
add-ons

having done all your instructions to the letter, i am still having the same
problem.
i turned off system restore, ran in safe mode adaware, it found the
following.....
vx2 windows /system32/p66sogj7e60.dll
vx2 windows / system32/kcdus.dll

i select both and delete them,
a window pops up saying "try closing all browser windows before deleting
file windows /system32/p66sogj7e60.dll , then my documents opens on its own
as well?

i tell adaware to run at next boot. i re boot and adaware dose not start?
i have re booted after the first safe mode scan in both safe mode, and also
as normal and adaware dose not start in either. ?

i have a program called startup control panel by mike lin, i look at the
file that adaware is placing in the run once option and it is simply called
AWW , there isn't a path for the file AWW?

i have even tryed placing my own file in, with the correct pathname. when i
do this, then close startup control panel and re open it, the pathname has
been removed again........

i have never had trouble with adaware not starting on system startup befor,
and yes, startup control panel was running then too.

i have tryed adawares add on for vx2 files, and it dosent find anything?

i have noticed that if i do another scan, the filename seems to change?
it is now called g2400chme14a0.dll

PLEASE help me, its driving me crazy.

Phil
