I am running XP/SP2. I am trying to download windows live one care
and can not suceed. It will partially download and then freeze and
go no further. About 2 weeks ago I found that I needed to dwnload
the new ADAware program. I had trouble getting it to dwnload. I
finally suceeded and noticed that my computor was running
considerally slower than before. I have anti virus program and
spyware program, whivh I have run several times to no avail. I have
run several other cleaning programs with no luck. When I can get a
program to start it will not end. It telld me it is not responding.
The only way I can get it to stop is by resetting my computer. I am
sure there is a bug of some kind that I picked up from the ADAWare
dwnload site but can not get rid of it. Any help will be
appreciated.
Post your questions in this newsgroup instead:

I find that you are just like most of the other people in this
Microsoft beauracracy. You are very good at passing the buck.
jamrs w. morgsn,
(James W. Morgan?)
I find that you are like many other people who ask questions in this
newsgroup. You don't try to find information on your own and you respond in
a caustic manner without trying to discover first if what you are about to
say has any merit...
In reference to your question - PA Bear made a very good suggestion for you
to follow up on. You did mention Windows Live OneCare and PA Bear did point
you to a newsgroup/web forum version of that newsgroup that would be better
equipped to answer any questions about said product. You can look at it
this way... If you had some pain (double-you-over pain) in your stomach -
would you walk into a veterinarian's office and ask them to help you if the
'human' hospital was right next door? I'd hope not - I could be wrong
though, I don't know you. *grin* Same difference. You'll get better advice
from the volunteers in a specific group dealing with the specific issue you
are having than in a group that deals with General Problems with Windows XP.
(Windows Live OneCare is NOT Windows XP.)
PA Bear is a MS MVP.
PA Bear (Robear Dyer) does not work for Microsoft. Robear was awarded the
title MVP due to others nominations and then being put through a process
where the past year of contributions to the community (Microsoft
newsgroups - but with a sprinkling of other things) is scrutinized and
weighed - and this happens every year there-after. Robear Dyer is no more a
part of what you called the Microsoft bureaucracy than you are - and Robear
__volunteers__ time and expertise to help those having trouble with the very
thing you accused Robear of being a part of...
BTW - I don't know Robear beyond replies and help provided in these and MANY
other forums. Just based off that - I assure you - PA Bear was not 'passing
the buck' - at worst a mistake was made in missing perhaps the meaning
behind your posting.
What you should do first - in order to troubleshoot your problem - is
uninstall all the anti-spyware applications you have installed (and
'cleanup' utilities...) through Add or Remove Programs Control Panel. Also
uninstall any other application you *know* you do not need and/or you can do
without for a while and have the installation media and product codes for.
This will clear out a lot of unknowns.

Now - to be safe - make sure your backups are up to date. All your
documents, pictures, music, email, contacts, installation media and product
codes, contacts, Internet favorites, etc have been copied to external media
for safe keeping.

After that - install SuperAntiSpyware and update/perform a full scan with
it. Follow that by updating your AntiVirus software definitions and
performing a full scan with it. Clean up whatever those find. Download and
utilize CCleaner to cleanup your temp files - do not concern yourself with
the registry cleanup at this time - save that for a time when you have more
time/patience to look through the list and make educated/researched
decisions on what to remove.

(I suggest the 'slim' version:

Perform a Disk Cleanup.

Now make sure you have all the Critical/Security updates for your Operating
System by doing a CUSTOM scan for updates. Do not install Hardware driver
updates from here - but better yet, get them direct from each hardware
manufacturer's support web site. You can utilize something like Belarc
Advisor to figure out who manufacturers things like your
motherboard/mainboard, your video card, your sound card and your network
card...

After doing all that cleanup, if you still have trouble with a slow system,
slow downloads, etc... Come back, let us know and add in the exact OS
(Windows XP what? Professional, Home, Tablet PC, x64, Media Center...?),
any errors you can find in the event log, your hardware specifications (you
can get some of that from Belarc Advisor - such as processor speed, amount
of memory, amount of FREE hard disk space, etc), what lead you to this point
and a list of other antispyware applications you have tried as well as your
current antivirus application. Then we will have more information that
might lead to a better answer specific to your unique situation.

P.S. - In the future, if you plan on ending your original posting with "Any
help will be appreciated."... Well, based off you initial response to the
first person to offer 'any help', you just might want to reconsider your
words. ;-)
