Adaptec Problem

I have a large number of research files on CDs that I can no longer access.
The problem is this: the CDs were created under Windows 98SE with a version
of Adaptec gotten from HP when I purchased their CD-Writer. Since creating
these CDs, I have upgrade my machine to Windows 2000, and have discovered
that there is a "boundry" problem that occurs when reading the CDs under
2000. Essentially, these CDs are not readable by 2000. To correct this, I
have ordered the new CD-Writer software from HP, but they no longer give
away Adaptec's Easy CD Creator. I have also gotten the latest version of
Adaptec's product -- assuming a fix for 2000 will be found there -- but
can't install it. It always returns a "no qualifying product found" even
when I go back an re-install the Adaptec product from the earlier HP CD.
Can anyone help?
