AD upgrade

I have a win2000 domain. I want to upgrade to 2003 AD and still run win2000
exchange and keep the win2000 Domain controllers in place to replace at a
later date. I have 14 DC globally. I have all new hardware for the DC’s. I
want to build a new win2003 dc and bring it into the win2000 domain and use
it to upgrade the AD. I need to get our organization running on exchange 2003
before I replace all the DC’s and that is why Im upgrading AD to 2003. I
figured upgrade AD first then bring in exch2k3.

However, I tried this in a test env and ran forstprep on my win2000 dc to
prep for the new 2k3 DC. I got an error stating a conflict with exchange2000.
So I found article:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=314649

talking about :You run the Inetorgpersonfix.ldf file before you run the
Windows Server 2003 adprep /forestprep command. I’m a little concerned about
running this. Can anyone tell me if I’m approaching this upgrade
appropriately or should I install exch2k3 on the domain first? Any
suggestions? Or options?

Also will my Exch 2k servers run harmoniously on a 2003 domain with 2003
exchange servers ?

you are right. you have 2 choices:either you follow the steps from kb314649,
either you upgrade first to exchange 2000
