I would like to install a new win2003 server with AD and transfer my all
accounts from existing OLD win2000 domain and demote OLD one.

Current Scenario.
Win2000 AD with exchange server 2000 installed , but not using the exchange.
There are 2 domain controllers (databse Servers) that is is not existing
physically.
One WINNT Server acting as BDC also want to demote aftrer a asuccessful
installation. Citrix server metaframe XP is there with terminal service
licensce from Win 2000 domain.

I want to install a New windows 2003 R2 Domain in anew server and transfer
all computer accounts and user accounts from old win2000 domain and
disconnect the Win2000 domain from network.
my doubt is : will this winnt server make any problem whille i run adprep/
forestprep and adprep /domainprep or demote this winnt from network first.
Also there are 2 domain controllers (databse servers) in win2000 domain
that's not physically in DOMAIN, but names are there, icannot remove account.
that servers name was changed. will it make any problem while replicating..
pls help me in this issue.

Hello Sudhi,

You have now:

1 x 2000 DC with Exchange
1 x NT4 BDC (which SP?)
1 x 2000 server as terminal server with Citrix, Member or DC

2 x DC database server that are existing in Active Directory, but that where
removed from the domain and are not longer physical available, so they can
removed from the database.

Is this right? Which one runs DNS

Best regards

If Exchange is no longer in use this will need to be uninstalled before you
will be able to demote the dc that resides on this server.
There are 2 domain controllers (databse Servers) that is is not existing
physically.

What do you mean 2 DC's that no longer existing then mention them as
database servers? If these were DC's that failed and weren't properly
removed you will need to clean this up before you move forward. The steps
on how to accomplish this are detailed in the link below.

One WINNT Server acting as BDC also want to demote aftrer a asuccessful
installation.

Just bring up server manager and delete the BDC
Citrix server metaframe XP is there with terminal service licensce from Win
2000 domain.

If you are going to demote the DC that has the TS on it then you will need
to build a new license server on your new dc (OR an existing one)

I have an article on how to upgrade AD

Select articles and click on Upgrade your Forest

I have an article on how to decommission a DC

Select articles and click on Decommission a DC

Prior to upgrading your domain and after you have completed your upgrade you
should run diagnostics. I have detailed this below:

un diagnostics against your Active Directory domain.

If you don't have the tools installed, install them from your server install
disk.
d:\support\tools\setup.exe

Run dcdiag, netdiag and repadmin in verbose mode.
-> DCDIAG /V /C /D /E /s:yourdcname > c:\dcdiag.log
-> netdiag.exe /v > c:\netdiag.log (On each dc)
-> repadmin.exe /showrepl dc* /verbose /all /intersite > c:\repl.txt

**Note: Using the /E switch in dcdiag will run diagnostics against ALL dc's
in the forest. If you have significant numbers of DC's this test could
generate significant detail and take a long time. You also want to take
into account slow links to dc's will also add to the testing time.

If you download a gui script I wrote it should be simple to set and run
(DCDiag and NetDiag). It also has the option to run individual tests
without having to learn all the switch options. The details will be output
in notepad text files that pop up automagically.

The script is located in the download section on my website at
http://www.pbbergs.com

Just select both dcdiag and netdiag make sure verbose is set. (Leave the
default settings for dcdiag as set when selected)

When complete search for fail, error and warning messages.
