Fresh Vista Enterprise install. I am a Student Adminstrator with Admin rights
to a college specific OU. I have disabled IPv6 and set the Netbios to TCP/IP
but I still get the aforementioned error when attemtping to join the domain.
It's been a long day, and this is a dificult subject to blindly search. Any
ideas? Advice? I'm new to Active Directory, but I am capable and competent.

That's usually a DNS problem. The computer you are trying to join to the
domain must be set to use a domain DNS server and no other DNS servers.

Wild goose chase.
The problem was due to some incompatibilities with older hardware in Vista's
new network stack.

Using an administrative command prompt:

netsh in tcp set global autotuninglevel=disable

This solved the problem for me, unless you can give a reason for not issuing
that command.

That command is necessary with some old networking hardware.
