network path not found?

I am running a Win2k Pro on a LAN with Win2k Server. I
cannot reach my network shares or map a drive. I
receive "network path not found error message." I am able
to ping the ip address, netbios name and gateways on the
server and other desktops. I am able to connect to the
Internet and ping websites from the command prompt.

I have jumped off the domain and changed computer names.
I have re-installed tcp/ip and file and print sharing
components. Then logged back on the domain. This seemed
to work for a few of the network shares.

Any suggestions to a fix?

Sounds like a permissions problem. Check your user accounts and groups,
NTFS and share permissions. Make sure you are logging in with correct
userid and password.

I have checked the permissions and the shares are fine. I
double checked from the server and other LAN desktops, I
am unbable to ping the computer in question. I cannot
ping the ip address or the hostname of the bad computer.

Ok, I re-read your original post and you said you COULD ping the computers
in question. If you cannot ping, that is a different problem obviously.
You will need to check your basic tcp/ip properties again. Try tracerouting
across your gateway to see where ping is failing. Start with pinging
localhost to make sure your nic is working properly.

Let's say the computer in question is named beta. Beta
can ping the server and other computers. However the LAN
computers receive a request timed out when trying to ping
Beta. I hope this clarifies my situation.
