XP says "Network path not found"

Hi,

I currently am running a windows 2k Advanced Server, and I have been trying
to join an XP machine to the server, but I keep getting this "network path
not found" error. I don't know why it happens, if everything is set up
right.

Okay, I set my preferred DNS to the particular domain controller, and I do
the join domain. I am asked for username and password of user who can join
the computer to the domain. And then, after I put it in, I wait for a while,
and this error messages pops up saying "the following error occurred
attemtping to join the domain; The network path not found."

That is when using the full domain name "domain.com"...

Then I try doing it with the NetBIOS name, it says this; "the following
error occurred attempting to join the domain - "the specified server cannot
perform the requested operation."

Could someone please explain to me what is the problem?

I was also running a test with 2k3 server, and on that one, the joining went
well.

I doubt that the following is your problem, but wanted to pass it on just in
case;
293403 Error Message "Network Name Is No Longer Available" Joining Windows
XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=293403
However more likely it will come down to our networking somewhere. I
realize that the 2k3 box joined ok, but some of the things that we need to
verify for these xp boxes is that they are set to "register this connection
in dns", the dc isn't running NAT, isn't multihomed, and that they are
actually able to resolve the 2kdc by name. Ping by name, see if we can map
a drive to it doing "connect as" etc to be sure that we're resolving
properly. Also check the ip address scheme and be sure we're getting
address if dhcp. Since the 2k3 box joined ok, didnt' focus on dns like I
probably normally would here, but be sure it is accepting registrations of
these clients (may change allow dynamic updates to Yes if "secure only"
right now just to test).
