When I run a troubleshooter on my daughter's machine, I get an error message
stating that the ActiveX is unsafe etc, etc This does not occur if NOT
running a troubleshooter. She's running XP Pro

That's not an error message, it's a warning and you have an option to allow the
ActiveX to run or not. The warning is just under the tool menu, correct? If so,
click on the yellow area the warning is in and click allow, if you deny it to run
your tshooter won't work.

Hi Brian,
Thanks for your quick reply.
I'm pretty sure I understand the differences between messages and warnings.
However to me this is an error message. It appears in a box with a yellow
triangle infilled with ! in the middle of ONLYthe troublshooting pages and
reads -
'An ActiveX control on this page is not safe. Your current security settings
prohibit running unsafe controls on this page. As a result this page may not
display as intended'. OK
I'm in H&S, Net & Web, Fixing Net/Web Problems, Fix a Problem
Hope this helps

Katie,

Error "An ActiveX control on this page is not safe" occurs while attempting
to run a troubleshooter in Help and Support Center
http://www.winhelponline.com/articl...roubleshooter-in-Help-and-Support-Center.html

Or if the above URL breaks

Brian,
Almost forgot - had a go at Ramesh's solution (forgotten where it is) and it
worked. However I would like to know WHY this problem (and only on
troubleshooters) has now just reared its ugly head and HOW is it that my
computer is unaffected by it? I run XP Home SP2.
