ActiveX Controls wont install under Limited Account

Hi All,

I am having trouble with installing ActiveX controls
using Windows XP Home and Internet Explorer 6 SP1 while
using a Limited Users account. For some reason I have to
be logged on under an Admin account. Is this a feature of
IE/XP or is there something wrong? I have tried
installing ActiveX controls on a few friends computers
who also use IE and XP, while under a limited user
account and have the same problem so its just not my
setup. I have tried disabling firewalls and antivirus
programs and other such programs with no success. The
only thing I havent tried thus far is reinstalling IE or
a complete reinstall of my system, which I am hesitant
to do until all other avenues have been explored.

Anyone have any ideas, your help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Zeals.

The whole point about a limitied user account is so people can't install
crapware on the system.
You install/uninstall via the administrators account. If you are not the
administrator or don't know the password, then you shouldn't be attempting
to install anything. Ask the owner to do it.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply, yes I am aware of what you have
said regarding the accounts and their limitations.

I was under the impression though that with IE the
settings for each XP account were separate from one
another including any ActiveX controls that were
installed, in other words an ActiveX control installed
under one account was not necessarily installed under all
XP accounts at the same time. IF this is the case how
does one transfer an ActiveX control installed in IE
under an Admin account to a limited account. Its my
understanding that just because an ActiveX control is
installed in IE for an Admin account, that may not
necessarily be the case for limited accounts on the same
computer as I have tested this scenario by going into
various websites that have ActiveX content and while the
ActiveX content works for the Admin accounts it wont for
the limited accounts.

Are there extra steps I need to take to install ActiveX
controls onto limited accounts once they have been
downloaded etc under the Admin account?

Thanks again for your help. :)
