Active Directory Cannot Connect

Tom

Please help,

No one can log into the network. When I open up Active
Directory I get an error message saying the specified
domain either does not exist or cannot be contacted.

I think things have been starting to go wrong since an
incomplete installation of Exchange Server happened.

Is there someway of rebuilding the Active Directory? I
have looked through the knowledge base and tried to
use /removeorg to take out Exchange but nothing works

Restore from backup is the best option, but start with examining event log
to see where the problem lies.

I've been looking through the event log and all the errors
are from other services trying to use the active directory.
However when I try and open the domains and trusts I get
the error message that the it cannot connect to a pre
Windows 2000 domain. This is not a pre 2000 domain.
does anyone know why it thinks it is?

Thanks
Tom

Run dicdiag and netdiag on your DC. Also send use your ipconfig /all from
the server.

hi,
had same problem a few months back. what i did was rebuild
from scratch and restore. I learned later that it could
possibly have been a dns problem( ie reinstall it!) or
something as simple as changing the system time! I tried
to replicate it by changing a dc's time and date and bingo
the symptoms were the same.

I have been having problems with the W32 time on the
server and it has been running fast. Lots of error
messages in the event log. When I look up how to fix the
errors it always talks about setting the clock to listen
to a time source on the internet. However our network is
not connected to the internet for security reasons. Is
there someway of sorting out the clock and maybe making
this problem go away as well?
