Activation on new machine

I had Win XP Pro on an old machine that gave me so much trouble that I finally decided to part it out and get a new machine. My new machine came with XP loaded on it. Can I now load XP on my laptop using my old license if I reformat the old hard drive to remove XP.

Assuming it was a retail copy, yes. If it has been more than 120 days since you
last activated it, it should go through on the internet with no problems.

Assuming a retail license (OEM licenses are not transferable),
simply remove WinXP from the computer it is currently on, and install
it onto the new one. If it's been more than 120 days since you last
activated that specific Product Key, you'll most likely be able to
activate via the Internet without problem. If it's been less, you
might have to make a 5 minute phone call.
