I need help activating Windows XP Pro x64. I have called the toll free
number numerous times and tried 3 different installation IDs, talked to 3
different people who said 3 different things. Because my activation grace
period expired, I have reinstalled Windows to get online. I have installed
and activated Windows at least 11 times. I reached my max and had to call in
once before, but everything worked fine back then. I wonder if last time I
called my key was marked as invalid or pirated? My product key is valid and
I can provide it and a photo of it, the cd, and the case if necessary, to a
qualified representative.

I was told to phone the $35 tech support line, which I have yet to do. I am
not paying $35 more for my product.

Another problem I have is the Activating Windows window hangs when checking
for connectivity. My system specs are available upon request.

I understand this is a user supported forum but I'm hoping someone from
Microsoft will see this and help. I don't see a better way that doesn't cost
me $35. My preferred solution is for you to give me a new key, instead of
giving me a code I type in in the activation window. This is because I will
inevitably have to reactivate Windows someday and I despise the 10 maximum.

I can be contacted via email at (e-mail address removed) if the solution is not
one you can post.
Thanks, a customer whose family has spent well over $1000 on Microsoft
software.

OK this installation ID worked today whereas it didn't work yesterday. What
changed was today I wasn't hung up on the checking for connectivity thing.
This may be because I had now installed the proper drivers, I'm not sure.
But I still wasn't able to activate over the internet, I had to phone in.
Once I phoned in, I told the ID to the computer twice - both times the
computer couldn't verify the ID. The first time, I was disconnected, the
second time I was transferred to a rep and I repeated the first 6 digits and
it worked.

I have to assume that the problem was the activation application hanging
while checking for connectivity, which somehow interferred with phone
activation!!!! There really needs to be a better method. Another thing,
although I had 22 or so days left of grace period to activate the product, I
was unable to log on without activating. This meant I could not update the
drivers to connect to activate!!!

Although my problem was temporarily solved, I'm going to leave this as an
unanswered question. I want to know how to activate Windows if both the
internet and phone methods fail that doesn't cost me $35.
