Account Unknown Problem

W

Wayne Robinson

I upgraded the OS from Me to XP Home. When I went into the Administrator
account to change the password, I noticed that there is an account called
Unknown Account s-1-5-32-547. I tried to delete the account but I was
instructed to turn off inherit permissions. Upon that I decided to back out
since I am not sure what it was telling me to do.

Is there a way to delete this account? Are there any potential security
holes with this account left on the system.

TIA

Kindest regards,

Wayne

S-1-5-32-547 is the SID of the BUILTIN\Power-Users account, which is not
available on domain controllers.

S-1-5-32-547 Power Users
[[A built-in local group. By default, the group has no members after a fresh
installation. On computers upgraded from Windows NT 4.0, it has one member,
Interactive. The Power Users group does not exist on domain controllers.
Power Users can create local users and groups; modify and delete accounts
that they have created; and remove users from the Power Users, Users, and
Guests groups. Power Users can also install most applications; create,
manage, and delete local printers; create and delete file shares; and start
(but not stop) services.]]

Thanks for the reply Wes. I guess it is alright to leave
alone then. I was concerned that since I could not access
it and set up a password that it may leave a hole in my
system.
