I had a HD in which i dual booted. 98SE on a partion (C:) and XP on the
other (E:) I used Partition Magic to delete the 98SE partition and create a
blank NTFS over it (P:) problem is.... looks like my bootfiles where on that
C: partition!!

When i go to boot up now it doesnt boot... just goes to the black screen at
start up and says "PRESS A KEY TO REBOOT"

Is there a way i can slave this HD on another comp and put the bootfiles
where they need to go?!! AHHH PLEASE HELP ME!!!

See http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

For NTFS:

1.. Insert and boot from your WindowsXP CD.
2.. At the first R=Repair option, press the R key
3.. Press the number that corresponds to the correct location for the
installation of Windows you want to repair.
4.. Enter in the administrator password when requested
5.. Enter in the following commands (X: is replaced by the actual drive
letter that is assigned to the CD ROM drive.
COPY X:\i386\NTLDR C\:
COPY X:\i386\NTDETECT.COM C:\
6.. Take out the CD ROM and type exit

This will rebuild boot.ini

1. Type: attrib -h -r -s C:\boot.ini del C:\boot.ini

2. Type: BootCfg /Rebuild

which will get rid of any damaged boot.ini, search the disk for systems and
make a new one. This might even result in a damaged windows reappearing; but
gives another chance of getting at the repair"

Hi Jeff,

It may be that the password you're keying in is for your User Account that
has Administrator privileges instead of the password for the local
(built-in) Administrator account. If you know the password that was assigned
to this account during Setup, key it in. It might also be that no password
was assigned to that account during Setup, in which case, simply press Enter
when prompted for a password.

This will rebuild boot.ini

1. Type: attrib -h -r -s c:\boot.ini del c:\boot.ini

2. Type: bootcfg /rebuild

N.B. The above commands are typed at the recovery console prompt as were the
copy commands for ntdetect etc.

P.S. Boot.ini, ntdetect.com and ntldr reside on the system partition (c:
drive, i.e., your 98SE partition).
