Accessories Question

JamesJ

When installing xp I've always remembered windows creating a
folder under Program Files called Accessories. I reinstalled xp
on my formatted hard drive. I tried pinning Wordpad to the start
menu knowing wordpad is in Program Files/Accessories. Well
a search for wordpad came up with 4 usable copies of wordpad.
Which one should I pin to the start menu so I won't lose it? There's
one in windows nt/accessories and one in a folder I can't remember.

Thanks,
James

In Win XP Pro it's in "C:\Program Files\Windows NT\Accessories\wordpad.exe"

You can also just click on the Start/All Programs/Accessories/ and right
click on WordPad and select "Pin to Start menu"

That's what I'm saying. After this install on a clean drive there
is no Start/All Programs/Accessories/. I allowed xp to do a regular
install.
I thought xp home edition creates an Accessories folder under
Program Files. It's not there this time . Maybe I thought it was there
the last time.

Thanks,
James

It restored the shortcuts but I was wondering why I couldn't find them after
I reinstalled xp a couple of days ago. I might have deleted it from the
start
menu myself, accidentally. And there's no more Program Files\Accessories???
It put the accessories folder under ...\windows nt\. Is this correct??

Thanks for the link

James,

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories

and/or

C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name Here\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories

are where they should be. These are just shortcuts to the real programs.

Right click the Start button | Explorer All Users |
Click [+] Programs |Click [+] Accessories

C:\Program Files\Accessories is not valid.
----

When Windows XP is installed as an upgrade from Windows 2000 or earlier,
Setup installs the operating system into the existing Winnt folder. A
Windows folder is not created.

So,

C:\WINDOWS
is the same as
C:\WINNT

To see...
Start | Run | Type: %windir% | OK

C:\WINNT will probably open.

There's an Accessories folder at ..Program Files\WSindows NT\Accessories.
Didn't know it was there.

Thanks again,
James

James,

The program puts the shortcuts in any of these two folders you choose:

%Allusersprofile%\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories"

-or-

%Userprofile%\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories"

If the shortcuts are restored somewhere else, it means there is a problem with the homepath pointer / env variables in your system.

type %Allusersprofile% in Start/Run
type %Userprofile% in Start/Run

Which folders are opened?
