Cannot open wordpad

I get an error "cannot open an empty document" everytime i try to open
wordpad in Accessories and in C:\Program Files\Windows
NT\Accessories\wordpad.exe" I also get the same error when I try Start | Run
| Type: wordpad | OK.

However, I do not see wordpad.exe in C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache. I DON'T
EVEN HAVE a dllcache FOLDER OR FILE IN system32. IS THIS WHY I'M GETTING THE
ERROR?

Start>Run>CMD>ok
point to the i386 directory of your XP CD and type in:
EXPAND WORDPAD.EX_ C:\WORDPAD.EXE

You need to unhide the dllcache folder. right-click on 'Start' > Explore >
Tools > Folder Options > View > check the box 'Show hidden files & folders',
click OK. Not sure why your getting the error though.

In Folder Options, - View have it set to show Hidden files, and *not*
Hide Protected mode ones and look again

I can get my CMD to get to E:\>but I get a "not recognized command, operable
program or batch file error" when I type i386. I've tried typing i386 EXPAND
WORDPAD.EX_ C:\WORDPAD.EXE and I386 EXPAND WORDPAD.EX_ C:\WORDPAD.EXE and I
still get the bad command.

However, when I typed EXPAND WORDPAD.EX_ C:\WORDPAD.EXE straight away, I get

"Microsoft <R> File Extension Utility Version 5.1.2600.0 Copyright <C>
Microsoft Corp 1990-1999. All Right Reserved

Can't open input file: wordpad.ex"

Interesting note is that the icon I see beside when I tried fixing my
problem through installing additional windows components and click on the
details of Accessories and Utilities to get to the list where I can make sure
that Document Template is checked. I'm wondering why the item is named
Document Template instead of WORDPAD? the icon itself doesn't show a memopad
graphic but its a white document with a Windows Logo on it. IS THIS NORMAL?
