If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it. I have six Windows xp Pro
machines networked. All except one is new within the last year. I a Compaq
6000 series as the server that runs the internet access using the Starband
Satellite using a NIC card connecting to the model 360 modem. That machine
has a second NIC card that is connected to a Netgear router. All connectons
are hardwired using Cat5 cables. I am using Winproxy to enable sharing of
the internet connection, per Starbands suggestion. I had at one time tried
to use Simple File Sharing through Windows XP Pro, but not able to access
the internet. My problem is that whenever I attempt to access the server
machine with any other machine it takes a very long time to open any drive.
I have just timed two different machines and one took Four Minutes Ten
Seconds and the other took 4:04 minutes. Showing all of the drives is very
very quick but opening the drive is not. I have set all permissions, shared
all drives but still get the same problem.
Any help would be appreciated.

Is the server running XP as well? Simply file sharing has nothing to do
with Internet connectivity.

Don't know why you're carrying the extra overhead of winproxy. If your
server is running XP, ICS would work just as well. You might even have NAT
capabilities in your router, where you don't need to run anything on the PC.

Thanks so very much for the response: Yes all machines, including the server
are running XP Pro, however I am apparently incorrect in my terminolgy .
The Netgear unit that all cables hook into is apparently referred to as a
Hub rather than a Router (what ever difference that is). In retrospect, it
was ICS that I tried quite some time ago, rather than Simple File sharing,
but as I remember, I could not access the internet from any machines other
than the server.
It would be appreciated very much if I could be given the step by step to
activate ICS so I could try to see if that would help get my "Pain in the
Posterior" index down. Again, thanks so much for your help.
