Access Denied!

Background Info:
I have recently done a clean install of WinXP Pro and created an ordinary
user account for myself, so as not to run my PC as an administrator. However,
it proved to be a real pain in the neck having to switch users to do so many
things! So I made my user account an administrator account and deleted my
original adminisrator account, saving files to dektop.

During all this, my documents were safely stored on a completely separate
internal drive, so that I did not accidentally format that drive and lose
them all!

Anyway, I am now getting two problems:

1) I am now receiving an "Access Denied" message whenever I try to change
the file attributes on certain files and documents - especially if I try to
remove the encryption that I obviously applied before I reinstalled XP!! I
mean, this is my computer and all the documents on it are mine and only mine
and were created by me at some point - now I am denied access to them!

2) I cannot even OPEN some of my files (probably because they were
encrypted prior to the reinstall?) now! I could open one particular Works
Database document a couple of days ago, when I was still using my original
adminstrator account. But now I cannot open it at all - and it has vital
information on it that I need urgently!

3) In Works 2000>History, most of my Word and Works documents that have
always been on drive:H are now shown as "unavailable"!

I am at my wits end to resolve these issues and have done several searches
on the MS KB to try and find the solution, without success. Some articles MAY
have helped resolve them - if only I could understand the jargon! So if
anyone knows how I can resolve these problems, PLEASE PLEASE tell me
urgently! If the solution is a closely guarded secret, perhaps you could
email me the instructions at essexbiker underscore at hotmail dot com?
