Well, I see others have run into this since my posts in
October, 2003. When will Microsoft post a fix for this
XP issue or do they even know what it really is? I've
been using CFS3 (A Microsoft Title... How
interesting...) as my test case and I've tried using
the "Tricks" listed so far. None of them work... Like:
Create a new user with Admin Privs and install it as that
user... NOT! or Go into the Local Security Policies and
make sure the DEVICES: Restrict CD-ROM access to locally
logged-on user only is Disabled... NOT! I even set it to
Enabled and then Disabled just to make sure and still the
same error... Anyone else up to the Challenge? In case
someone new is trying to crack this MS screwball XP bug,
I'm running Windows XP Pro on a Pentium 4 2.2 GHZ
Alienware system with a Leadtek A350 FX 5900 Ultra Nvidia
GPU with 256 MB of RAM and 300+ MB System RAM with a 100
Gig Hard Drive and a Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum Card.
and the following games will no longer run:

CFS3 (MS Combat Flight Sim. 3)
MOHAA (Medal of Honor)
Ghost Recon
Sturmovik IL-2 Flight Sim
Comanche 4

Other Games work fine:
Dungeon Siege (Microsoft Game... Hmmmmmm.)
Jedi Knight II Outcast
Morrowind
Wolfenstein
CFS2 (Why 2 and not 3??????)

And for the uninitiated... Here's the lovely Dialog Box
error:

and try again

I honestly feel bad for all the kids and non technical
folks who have to deal with this MS crud... But that's
what you get with a Monopoly...

Hi Bill,

I remember around the middle of November you said
you were about to reinstall Windows on your system
out of frustration over the problem. I'm wondering if
reinstalling Windows XP is a solution to the problem,
or better yet, doing a repair installation is less drastic:

1. Unplug from your Internet connection, and then repair Windows:
using this method: http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

2. Reinstall and play CFS3 using an account with admin privileges.

3. Afterwards, boot up your system, turn on your XP Internet Firewall,
plug back into your Internet connection and install all Critical and
