need help with joystick

This problem just happened earlier in the day. A few days
ago I installed a new sound card. No problem getting it
started. Played Flight Sim 2002 with my joystick, no
problem. Now today, all of a sudden and with no reason, I
go to play FS2002 again and my joystick is no longer
working. Upon further review, I look in the settings
section of the game and the joystick (MS Force Feedback
Pro) is not even listed on the game as the controller
anymore, but somehow my MS steering wheel is! My joystick
is connected and works fine, as indicated by the game
controller section, but I cannot get FS2002 to recognize
it now for some reason. Could someone plese help me with
this?!

Hi Cubby,

It might just be a matter of reinstalling FS2002 in order for
it to recognise the change in configuration on your system
since you've installed that modem. I think the problem may
be caused by a gameport component included with that
modem which has changed the ID of your Force Feedback
joystick. Hopefully reinstallation will take care of that. :)

You can also check in the Gaming Options control panel and ensure the device
you want ot use in the game is set as the "Preferred Device" under the
Advanced button.

1. Connect the device to the gameport
2. Start -> Run -> Control Panel
3. Switch to "Classic View".
4. Run the Gaming Options control
5. In Gaming Options Click the "Advanced..." button.
6. Select your preferred device from the drop down dialog.
7. Click Ok on all doalogs.

well, i reinstalled the game and i already had my
joystick as the preferred controller, and retried it
several times anyway, still no luck. It does the same
thing, atill list only my steering wheel as the only
controller. Other games work just fine, and like i said
before, it worked the day i installed the new sound card,
but no more. Any more advice? Please help!

Hi,

I would unplug the steering wheel and try FS with
only the joystick attached. I would even reinstall
it one more time for good measure. Good luck! :)

Make sure something hasn't happened to your gameport in Device Manager. If
something uninstalled the gameport or if it is yellow (!)'d out then that
would explain why it is no longer listed. If you try to "Add..." "Microsoft
SideWinder (Auto-Detect)" do you get an error?
