Access Denied when running games

Wild Bill

Well, not all Games. I'm running XP Pro and many games
suddenly are failing to run and stating "Access Denied"
Please login with administrator privelages and try again"

This happens with IL2, MS CFS3 (Not MS CFS2) Ghost
Recon, Medal of Honor Allied Assalt, but NOT Dungeon
Siege, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Star Wars Jedi
Knight II.... These work... I had to do a System Restore
due to an AGP440.SYS load error that would not go away
and now things are odd... The MOHAA site states to re-
install their game. I can't imagine I would have to do
that for all of these? Anyone have any ideas? I had
posted this on the Admin/Security group a few days ago,
but I can't find it anymore? I even tried logging in as
Administrator and I get the same error message. Now to
add to all of this, the "Windows" directory under my C
drive is "Missing" when I run Explorer... Too strange!
Microsoft strikes again...

I don't think it is a system problem or problem with the games, Bill. I
think you've got a virus. If you're networked, I would disconnect that
computer from the rest of your system pronto, and then give it a thorough
scan with your anti-virus software running the latest definitions. Sounds
very much like the Swen virus.

Similar problem...just purchased Halo last pm and when
attempted to launch I got the same error
message..."Access Denied...please login with
administrator priveleges and try again."
I spent 40 mins on phone with microsoft game rep and then
1hr 40 mins on phone with XP rep (60 mins hold) who
attempted adjusting security settings, permissions, child
protection, etc. I've reinstalled several times, tried
new administrator account, updated virus scan, all to no
avail. I'd like to play this game...any thoughts? Thanks

Hi PT,

Have you considered repairing your Windows Installation?

Unplug from your Internet connection, and then repair Windows:
using this method: http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

Next we're updating your Video drivers using the instructions at: http://mvps.org/nibblesnbits/Video.html#drivers

Then install and test your game using an account with Admin privi's.

Afterwards, boot up your system, turn on your XP Internet Firewall,
plug back into your Internet connection and install all Critical and
Recommended updates from: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

Hopefully that will have you playing Halo again within 60 minutes! :)

Well,
Nice thought, but I am on the verge of wiping out my
system and reinstalling XP... According to Symantec I
have no virus. I ran it with Definitions from 11/15...
The most current. No Viruses found... I really don't
want to spend hours on hold with Microsoft on this. It
IS a security setting issue. I just don't know where. I
even tried uninstalling and re-installing the one of the
games... Same error. I wonder if the Halo guy got Halo
running again? Because all of this happened after I did
a system recovery... which left my system a mess!
That's why I am seriously considering spending the week
it will take to do a full re-build... Anyone have any
idea on how I can pre-pull down the Windows update
patches? With my dial up connection it's going to take
FOREVER! Unless someone else has any other ideas????

You can check the corporate update site and hopefully find what you're
looking for.
